Balloon flowers are native to East Asia and were given their names because of their distinctively billowy buds which eventually blossom out into large bells. In Japan, the Bureau of Taoist Geomancy has long used the balloon flower as its symbol. The five petals of this blossom are connected with the five Taoist elements - wood, water, fire, metal and earth, This drawing is from the 100 Days of Flowers projected completed in 2015.

This is an original drawing created with Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils on 250gsm bristol artist paper.
