Carmen Hui is an Australian artist known for her delicate pencil drawings that capture the quiet beauty of everyday life. Working from her home studio in Sydney’s Inner West, she creates nostalgic still life illustrations that celebrate the objects, animals, and native flora that shape Australian homes and memories.
Using nothing more than coloured pencils and a deep love for storytelling, Carmen’s work invites viewers to slow down and reconnect with nature, with childhood, with the past. Her pieces often feature native plants, household keepsakes, beloved pets, and vintage curiosities, brought to life through soft, thoughtful layering and fine detail.
Originally trained as a graphic designer, Carmen returned to her first love, drawing in 2015. Since then, her art has found its way into thousands of homes across Australia and beyond. Each piece is created with care, rooted in memory, and designed to evoke a sense of calm, comfort, and connection.
Her work has been featured in publications including Frankie, Country Style, Peppermint, Inside Out, and Colored Pencil Magazine, and she has collaborated with brands such as Derwent, Twinings, Wacom, and Erstwilder. Whether she’s working on a personal series, a commission, or a commercial brief, Carmen brings the same warmth and gentle focus to every illustration.
