Lavender was commonly used in Roman baths to scent the water, it was thought to restore the skin. During Roman times, flowers were sold for 100 denarii per pound, which was about the same as a month's wage for a farm labourer.

This is an original drawing created with Faber Castell Polychromos coloured pencils on 250gsm Bristol artist paper.
